Saint Joseph High School
Concord High School
The St. Joe Indians played team football to outlast the Concord Minutemen at The Jake in Dunlap. Many personnel adjustments allowed the Indians to overcome their adversity and win their first game of the season. Starting out 1 and 0 in 2017 is a big boost for this young squad who is looking to make their mark in the storied tradition that is St. Joe Football.
St. Joe began their JV season with a make shift line that required several players playing out of position requiring young and eager players to learn quickly and on the fly. An interception by Nathaniel Garcia help buoy the Indians against the larger Concord team.
The second quarter was a flurry of offensive production with the introduction of freshman guard, Michael Conery, giving the line a strong presence in the middle along with center, Will Faulkner, and guard, Matthew Yarbrough. Following the line's blocks, John Driscoll was able to carry the ball for two rushing TDs. Additionally, Evan Price threw a third touchdown to Austin Lee who outjumped the defender to give the Indians a 20-0 half-time lead. Patrick Oliva added two extra points.
Defense was the name of the game in the third quarter with an interception by Pat Driscoll and a fumble recovery by Daniel Evans.
The mighty Indians held off the Concord desperation with stingy coverage in the secondary including a pick by Teddy Maginn and a no quit coverage by Medrick Zounlome. Concord managed a touchdown on the last play of regulation to end the game.
