Marian High School
Saint Joseph High School
The Indians dominated Saturday’s game with the emergence of some young beasts driving the herd. Tough defense and strong offensive line play announced the program’s future is looking bright.
St. Joe stopped Marian on 3 and out on the opening drive. Then St. Joe drove down the field capping the drive with a Kenzel Kelly touchdown. Another defensive stand gave the Indians the ball on their own 37. Two plays later after a Conor Ratigan 62 yard reception from Evan Price, Price punched in on a QB dive to score again. Patrick Oliva's second extra point made it 14-0 at the quarter.
The second quarter only had one fruitless drive, but defense was able to maintain the 14 point margin.
St. Joe received the 2nd half kickoff, but couldn't get a first down and was forced to punt the ball away. On the ensuing drive, the Knights faced 4th and long. A deceptive Tight End dump tightened up the game as Marian converted for 2 points. St. Joe answered with another Kenzel Kelly score and a true kick by Oliva.
The 4th quarter allowed the Indians to assert their dominance as the defensive troops rallied from earlier mistakes to yield no more points. The offensive line grew in confidence giving good protection to Evan Price who connected for a 27 yard TD to Dan Stone and opening holes for a rushing TD by Jon Underly. Patrick Oliva completed his 5 for 5 game splitting the uprights each time.
