Saint Joseph High School
The combined JV-Freshman team for St. Joe was too much for the Clay Colonials in Saturday’s big win for the Indians.
The Indians started the game with a big turnover on the first play from scrimmage. Kenzel Kelly forced a fumble that was recovered by Daniel Evans. The recovery set up a Kenzel Kelly touchdown followed by a Patrick Oliva extra point. On the next defensive series, Clay was forced to punt from their own end zone. An errant snap led to a safety and 2 more points for the Indians. On the ensuing free kick, the Indians got the ball back at the Clay 20 yard line. Soon thereafter, Jonathan Underly punched it in the end zone to score. Another defensive stand gave the ball back to the Indians in time for Walter Wesson to run 18 yards for a touchdown making it 22-0 at the quarter.
In the second quarter, defense continue to shine with a Nathaniel Garcia interception. Then Asante Anglin electrified the crowd with a stellar 41-yard run and Oliva conversion.
The second half featured the freshman team and the Indian faithful cheered as Gavin Stefanek ran for a touchdown.
In the final 10 minutes, Cole Chrzan caught a Matt Eck pass for a 14 yard score and a booming kick by Charlie Leonard made the score 42-0. Then an interception by Jack Futa was returned 42 yards for the final score of the game. The Indians JV is now 4-0 on the season going into the midpoint of the season at Elkhart Central next week.
