Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Morrell Wins Cross Country Sectional Championship; Both teams to compete at Regional

The boys cross country team ran its best race of the season under warm and windy conditions Saturday afternoon at the IHSAA Sectional. Senior Amani Morrell won the individual Sectional Championship in convincing fashion while executing a steady race plan. Junior Bill Powers ran his best race of the season to finish 8th, Junior Joe Deahl 14th, Senior Saul Garcia 16th, and Sophomore Gabe Kloski 37th to finish the score for St. Joe. The boys team placed 3rd overall in the 12 team field, being edged out by Mishawaka for 2nd and holding off Riley. The team advances to next Saturday’s IHSAA Regional at Ox Bow Park in Elkhart.

The girls team also executed very smart race tactics under tough course conditions. Junior Maeve O’Shaugnessy and Senior Lauren Rymsza both advanced to the IHSAA Regional by placing in the top ten among individuals from non-advancing teams.

Both boys and girls cross country teams have been represented at the Regional every year since 2001.
