The girls cross country team finished Runnerup in the IHSAA Sectional Saturday. Four Indians placed in the top fifteen overall to lead St. Joe to a season best 21:40 average team time on the hilly terrain at Erskine Golf Course.This is the highest finish for the girls team since 2011 and improves on their 3rd place finish from the last two years. With the finish, St. Joe advances to next week’s Regional.
The pack of top three runners for St. Joe were Maeve Kearney (9th), Alexis Kintzele (10th), and Ava Rousseve (11th) with Mary Clare Elliot (15th) also earning individual recognition. Lexi Juday had a lifetime best performance to complete the team score with fellow Sophomores Kiley McGuire and Mia Ritschard finishing the Varsity lineup.
The boys team ran an inspired race and continues to pass teams that were ahead of them earlier in the season. The boys finished 3rd in a strong field, behind only state ranked Penn and Riley. The boys were two points back of Riley for Runnerup. The Indians advance to Regionals, placing 3rd for the 3rd time in the last 4 years. The team has advanced to Regional every year but one in the 2000’s.
Leading the way for St. Joe was Zach Taylor (6th), Marko Enriquez (8th), Josh Frabutt (16th), Brendan Pruitt (17th) who all broke 18 minutes and received individual awards. TJ Weber, Alex Garcia, and Alex Gutierrez rounded out the scorers for St. Joe en route to a Varsity team time average of 17:49, second best in the twelve school field.
Both girls and boys teams will compete at the IHSAA Regional at Ox Bow Park next Saturday October 17th. Meet time is scheduled for 10:30 am/11:15 am with the top five teams advancing to Semistate.
