A defensive battle between the Indians and the Eagles featured a lot of heavy hitting and strong play, but in the end the Eagles emerged the 3 point victors on Friday night.
In the first quarter, Teddy Maginn picked off a pass to stop Culver’s first drive. A short offensive series gave Culver the ball back, and the Eagles drove down the field to score the game’s first touchdown.
St. Joe answered quickly in the 2nd quarter when Ashton Ruszkowski threw a 55 yard pass to Conor Ratigan. Then Ruszkowski ran to the short left side to get a 2 point conversion. On the ensuing kickoff, Gavin Stefanek stripped the ball and Patrick Driscoll recovered getting the ball back inside the 30. Patrick Oliva kicked a 17 yard field goal to expand the lead to 4. Culver quickly answered with a 66 yard touchdown pass, and the score was 14-11 at the half.
The second half continued the defensive fight. Noah Hickey intercepted a pass at the 5 yard line to stop the Eagles drive. Then Culver got down to the 15 again, but missed their field goal attempt. Again, Culver’s defense stopped St. Joe, but the blackshirt defense responded with another stand to give the Indians one more chance under two minutes. The final drive ended at midfield, and the Indians lost another game by one score.
