The St. Joe Indians set the stage for the the playoffs with a Senior Night victory over the South Bend Adams Eagles.

In the beginning, the cold, rainy weather featured only one first quarter score with a 29 yard field goal by Patrick Oliva.

The frigid Fr. Bly field heated up in the second quarter when Ashton Ruszkowski punched in a touchdown from 1 foot out. The extra point hit the right upright and the score was 9-0 Indians. On the next possession, John Paul Lewis intercepted a pass. Then Adams got the ball back and scored on a 40 yard quarterback end run. The Indian defense blocked the kick and it was 9-6. The next Indian drive ended with an interception in the end zone. Then St. Joe forced Adams to punt. Mark Hiestand blocked the punt. Shortly afterwards John Driscoll ran in for 2 yards. Patrick Oliva kicked the extra point and the Indians took a 16-6 lead into the half.

The 3rd quarter was all about St. Joe. John Paul Lewis ran for a two yard touchdown and again Oliva’s kick was good. After more defensive containment, John Driscoll caught a 2 yard pass from Ruszkowski for another touchdown. Oliva split the uprights again. After the kickoff, Conor Ratigan intercepted a pass and returned it to the 20 yard line. Ruszkowski punched in another touchdown run and the Indians went up 36-6.

The 4th quarter allowed St. Joe to play every healthy Indian. The Eagles’ varsity players managed to score a touchdown against the freshmen linemen with 2 minutes to go, but their extra point fell short and the Indians won 36-12.

St. Joe prepares for the “Most Wonderful Time of the Year” next Friday at Kankakee Valley as they seek the live game of the Kougars.
